Pensi La Pass

Pensi-la is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4,400 m (14,436 ft) above the sea level located in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, in India. The pass is traversed by a metalled road. Avalanches and heavy snowfalls can sometimes block some sections of the road and can be extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice. The pass is known as the Gateway to Zanskar and it's open between May and October only. Proper preparation is essential to having a safe, enjoyable trip on this road that connects the Suru Valley region to the Zanskar Valley region. There’s very little traffic. It’s a real challenging road and a true test of your vehicle and your stamina because the road abounds in twists and turns with wheels sometimes hanging above the precipice. The surface isn’t great but this fact keeps the trucks away.
